The report Alternatives to high GWP HFCs in Refrigeration and Air-Conditionning applications, performed by the CES, EReIE and Cemafroid for AFCE with financial support of ADEME and UNICLIMA is available in french and in english. It presents an overview of the alternative refrigerants and technologies to the use of high GWP HFC by application, at the end of 2013.
Synthetic factsheets have been established for 33 identified reference systems. They compare all available or under development alternatives. Factsheets are also available in French.
This part will explain the types of refrigerants used by application and technology. It will also show the refrigerants in use by country and by sector as below.

This section will focus on refrigerant alternatives to high GWP HFCs. The latest news about alternatives availability and performances will be posted. For instance, low GWP refrigerants programs such as AHRI (Air-conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute) AREP (Alternative Refrigerants Evaluation Program) initiative will be analysed. Similarly, dedicated conferences to alternatives such as 2012 Ashrae Conference, will be covered. |
Here refrigerant properties will be found: environmental properties (GWP, ODP) as well as thermodynamic properties. A tool will be available to compare the properties between refrigerants.
Lastly, a tool to help choose a refrigerant for a new installation as well as for a retrofit will be proposed.
